While searching for an exit Blackbird McAllister swipes his foot across a grate hear one corner of the room. He can hardly make out the dimensions due to lack of light, but he is able to open the entire mesh of metal bars.
"Akasha! Over here..." Blackbird coarsely shouts under his breath. The echo of his small bark moves through the chamber. He can only hope it doesn't alert the creatures roughly sorting the Hall's collection of books.
"Now I know you men just love your brute force and all, but perhaps we should go the brains route for once," Akasha says, patting dust off of what seams like every inch of her body.

"You sneak past the gaurds and be ready to block the path by knocking over a huge tower of these old books. I'll sneak over and grab the tomes we need then high tail it out of there. When they come after me, you block our exit so we don't have to fight a battle we probably can win."
"Great plan - help me lift this grate and we'll make a getaway down here. It beats searching in the dark for another set of stairs that may not exist..."
Blackbird and Akasha quietly and carefully lift the heavy metal mesh out of the carved stone floor in which it once rested. The drop doesn't appear to be far - then again it is still quite dark down there.
"Here goes nothing..." Blackbird mumbles as they both head off along opposite walls of the room to execute their hastily made plan.
