Welcome to the Realms of Adventures collection of blogs surrounding the adventures written or experienced by the author, Andrew Jackson, and his online gaming friends. DungeonWorld, Mythic RPG, Wurm Online, Minecraft, Dwarf Fortress, and the original PBeM game "Realms of Adventures" are games included among the blog posts. Serial stories from a wide range of genres will also be featured as they are dreamed up and written down.
Realms of Adventures is a play-by-email game based upon decades of classic roleplaying gamebooks that have come before. Andrew Jackson, the founding Game Master, has been a fan of Choose Your Own Adventure books since his youth. When Andrew was just 11 years old he started an open world, utilizing player scene submissions and story branches, based upon Piers Anthony's Xanth series of novels.
DungeonWorld is a character-based multi-player turn-based fantasy adventure game. It is set in an epic world full of monsters, mayhem, swords and sorcery. You can play DungeonWorld completely for free with a single character, or play commercially with as many characters as you like. Whichever way you choose, all players are in the same continuous shared world. It's the biggest game of its kind on earth!
Mythic RPG is a gaming system that automates the functions of a living, breathing GM. It works through interpretation and logical principles. The upshot is, with Mythic acting as your GM, that poor schmuck can finally roll up a character and get his hands dirty. It also means you can play solo if you wish. With Mythic, you can do away with the GM entirely, if you wish. Or, if your GM enjoys playing God, Mythic can make adventures more fun for the GM by eliminating all of that nasty preparation. In a Mythic adventure, the GM (or players sans GM) can start an evening's entertainment with about five minutes of preparation. As the adventure unfolds, the GM is just as surprised by the twists and turns as the players are.
Wurm Online is a game of limitless opportunity and freedom, where the actions of every player make a real and lasting difference. Wurm Online offers no character classes, quests or pre-built environment. Instead, the world offer players the opportunity to choose their own direction and to train any or all of the skills they desire while living in a breathing and evolving world entirely built and maintained by the players that inhabit it. Become a part of this vibrant, active, and involved community. Play the game you want to play in the way you want to play it! This is Wurm Online. Be prepared to leave your mark!
Dwarf Fortress is modeled on a complex physics engine and is presented in ASCII graphics. Every world is generated completely from scratch, and historical events and figures are documented and recorded as game lore, including any and all sentient characters. The game is programmed solely by Tarn Adams, with input from his brother Zach Adams. Work began in 2002, the first alpha was released in August 2006, and development is ongoing. Tarn Adams has declared it his life's work, expecting 20 years before it is complete; development is supported solely through donations, and contributors receive either short stories or crayon drawings as a thank you from the developers.
Minecraft is a game about exploring randomly generated worlds and molding them to your own desires by breaking and placing blocks. At first, people simply built structures to protect against nocturnal monsters, but as the game grew players worked together to create wonderful, imaginative things. Minecraft is also a great realms for adventuring with friends. Of course you can just enjoy watching the sun rise over a blocky ocean. The entire game is really quite beautiful. Some brave adventurers choose to battle terrible things in The Nether, which is a very scary realm. You can also visit a land of mushrooms if it sounds a bit more inviting!
